First Trap Grounds Damselflies of the Year

A visit to the Trap Grounds pond yesterday found the first Damselflies of the year with several Red-eyed Damselflies and one Common-type (I didn't see it closely enough to distinguish it from Azure).

Otmoor Beetle Pyrochroa serraticornis 21st June


Quite a few of these Beetles (Pyrochroa serraticornis) currently along the Roman Road on Otmoor.

Oxford Hover Flies


I'm starting to get into Hover Flies. I caught this one in my moth trap last night. It's Melanostoma scalare - a very common species.

Another common one from the garden is this "Marmalade Fly" Episyrphus balteatus. A useful place to get started with them is here
